Anglophone countries in Africa

 

The African continent is home to more than 1 billion people. There are 54 countries in the African continent. Out of 1 billion people, only 130 million speak English in Africa. In this article, we will talk about the anglophone countries in Africa. Here is a list of English-speaking countries in Africa 

Burundi

Burundi, a country in East Africa, has three official languages: French, English, and Kirundi. People in this African country can speak English. 

Botswana

Botswana, a landlocked country in Southern Africa, has two official languages: English and Setswana. English is the official language of Botswana. 

Cameroon

Cameroon is an African country that speaks English. It is one of the English-speaking countries in Central Africa. It has two official languages: French and English.

Ethiopia

Ethiopia, a landlocked country located in the Horn of Africa, is one of the anglophone countries in Africa. Amharic, Oromo, Somali, Tigrigna, Afar and English are the official languages of Ethiopia. 

Eritrea

Eritrea, a northeast African country, has three official languages: English, Arabic, and Tigrigna. Business professionals can speak English in Eritrea.

The Gambia

The Gambia is one of the English-speaking countries in West Africa. English is the official language of The Gambia. 

Ghana

Ghana is one of the English-speaking countries in West Africa. Ghana has 11 official dialects, including English. More than one-half of the population is Christian in Ghana.

Kenya

Kenya’s national language is Swahili. However, most people in Kenya can speak English because Swahili and English are the official languages of the country. 

Liberia

Liberia has over 20 tribal languages. English is the official language of Liberia, a country in West Africa. Most people can communicate in English in Liberia.

Mauritius

Mauritius is famous for its beaches, lagoons and reefs. It is a famous tourist destination in Africa. English and Latin are the official languages of Mauritius.

South Africa

Afrikaans, English, Xhosa, Tswana, Zulu, Southern Sotho, Northern Sotho, Venda, Tsonga, Swati and Ndebele are the official languages of South Africa.
