  The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has increased the pump price of petrol, from N537 to N617 per liter. The pump price of petrol is also known as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). This adjustment was observed at some filling stations in Abuja and is expected to be implemented nationwide. The decision by NNPCL indicates an increase in the pump price of petrol. According to Mike Osatuyi, the National Operations Controller of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), the price increase was inevitable due to the rise in the ex-depot price.  The ex-depot price is the price at which marketers purchase petroleum products from depots, and it influences the selling price to consumers. Osatuyi explained that the increase in ex-depot price necessitated the upward adjustment in the pump price. Muhammad Shehu presented the reports of the reviewed salaries package to Nasir Idris, governor of Kebbi, a state in northwestern Nigeria. Muhammadu Shehu, represented by the Federal Commissioner, Rakiya Tanko-Ayuba, presented the remuneration report to Nasir Idris during a visit at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi.   The majority of those who perished when a boat capsized in Nigeria’s north-central region were women and their children, survivors and local authorities told the Associated Press on Thursday as search efforts came to a conclusion. A total of 108 people were reported missing after the incident. According to survivors, the wooden boat was carrying more than 250 people when it collided with a tree trunk and shattered early Monday morning on the River Niger in the state of Kwara. The passengers had just returned home from a wedding that had taken place late into the night. Ibrahim Mohammed, one of the survivors, revealed that they had transported children to shore,  “but some of the women didn’t want to leave their children behind, and they drowned.”  According to Mr. Mohammed,  “the majority of the women on the boat were pregnant or had young children, and the majority of those who perished were women and young children.”  He stated that he was able to save three...

  Bola Tinubu, the current president of Nigeria, has urged Nigerians to be patient after his decision to remove a popular petrol subsidy that increased petrol, transport, and food prices. The United States of America has stated that it has initiated the process necessary to deny visas to individuals who were responsible for disrupting the most recent  general elections in Nigeria. Secretary of State Antony Binken issued a statement that was posted on the website of the United States Department of State, stating that  “the United States is committed to supporting and advancing democracy in Nigeria and around the world.”  Blinken made it clear that the visa ban does not apply to the Nigerian people as a whole or the Nigerian government in its entirety. Rather, the ban is only applicable to a select few individuals. According to the statement, these persons will be subject to limits on visas to enter the United States under the US Immigration and Nationality Act.
