  When the European Union (EU) abruptly ended its election monitoring mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), it sent shockwaves across the diplomatic community. The EU faced insurmountable obstacles preventing the deployment of its observers across the large country, citing unforeseen "technical" restrictions. The EU spokesperson, Nabila Massrali, cited "security reasons" as the main obstacle, making the mission unfeasible in the current environment. The EU was forced to terminate the mission entirely due to the severe lack of essential communication equipment, which made matters worse. The DRC's parliamentary and presidential elections, scheduled for December 20, are in doubt due to the EU's abrupt withdrawal from the observer mission.  Ethiopia and the European Union (EU) have signed a cooperation agreement worth 650 million euros ($680 million) to better the relations and assist Ethiopia in post-war recovery and reform of it's economy.  There are certain conditions set for the provision of aid. Any direct assistance fiscally to the government of the country will not be forwarded till the political conditions are understood and met with clarity. The EU needs assistance for the peace agreement through transitional justice, accountability, and national dialogue. The EU has made it clear that reforming relations with Ethiopia would be possible only when the culprits of the Tigray massacre, and other perpetrators are brought to light and punished.  The United Nations has stressed the importance of independent investigations in the human rights' violations in Ethiopia in the background and urged that this is necessary to prevent any further tragedies or incidents that may deteriorate the peace process....

  A United Nations (UN) investigation that found many problems with the utilization of food aid caused the European Union (EU) to temporarily stop funding the World Food Programme (WFP) in Somalia. Concerns have been raised about the Somalians who have been in need of aid as the result. The European Commission, which is a part of the EU, gave the WFP in Somalia roughly $7 million last year. However, the organization received almost $1 billion in total donations. We don't yet know if other EU nations will discontinue providing aid. Speaking on behalf of the European Commission, a man by the name of Balazs Ujvari claimed that although they had not received formal word that their money had been stopped, they had been very serious about putting an end to fraud, dishonest and other criminal behavior so might have been stopped too.
