  Naledi Pandor, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, in an interview with WION, talked about the United Arab Emirates (UAE).She claimed that the UAE, Egypt, Algeria, Argentina, Mexico and Nigeria wanted to join BRICS, an informal group of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.   The UAE played an important role in helping make peace between Eritrea and Ethiopia . When South Africa was hit by floods last year, the UAE sent an aid aircraft, carrying 50 metric tonnes of food supplies to Durban city, in order to help flood victims. Mahash Saeed Al Hameli, UAE Ambassador to South Africa, thanked the UAE for providing humanitarian aid to South Africa.   On Tuesday, leaders from the United Nations and ambassadors from African countries met in the Security Council Chamber for a high-level conversation about preventing violent extremism in Africa and fighting terrorism in Africa. Kenyan police banned fresh opposition demonstrations

  Violence broke out during protests last week, so the head of Kenya’s police force has said that any planned protests by the opposition on Monday will not be allowed to happen. The Inspector General of Police, Japhet Koome, was quoted as saying to the press on Sunday that “we will not allow violent demonstrations.” “The protests they are planning for Monday are illegal and will not be allowed,” he said, adding that his force was ready to keep the peace and would arrest anyone carrying offensive weapons. But the veteran leader of the opposition,  Raila Odinga,  who has called for protests against President William Ruto over the high expense of living on Monday and Thursday, remained defiant. Odinga has called on people to take to the streets to demonstrate against Ruto. The WHO reports that the Marburg virus has killed 20 people in Equatorial Guinea

  The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Thursday that the death toll from the  Marburg virus epidemic in Equatorial Guinea  has climbed to 20. Malabo has reported six more deaths in the past ten days. This hemorrhagic fever, which is almost as deadly as Ebola, has spread from the province of Kie-Ntem, where it caused the first recorded deaths on January 7, to Bata, the economic capital of this small central African country, which is partly an island and partly a continent. The World Health Organization (WHO) said in a statement that this growth  “suggests wider transmission of the virus” and that “intensified response efforts are needed to prevent a large-scale epidemic and loss of life.”  The Equatoguinean government reported on its website that between the 11th and 20th of March, there were eight confirmed cases, of which six resulted in fatalities. Jeune Afrique revealed the ranking of the top 500 companies on the African continent that have the best-taken advantage of business opportunities in the 2021 financial year. Africa has various financial institutions and  South Africa has various young entrepreneurs.  Sonatrach, the national state-owned oil company of Algeria, has topped the list of the top 500 companies in Africa. The company reached a turnover of 34 billion dollars and a net result of more than 5.5 billion dollars.   Cyclone Freddy was the tropical storm that lasted the longest on record. It killed hundreds of people and destroyed almost half of Malawi, according to President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi. In an exclusive interview, he asked for help from the rest of the world and said that there was a lot of damage to buildings.   Tropical Storm Freddy tore through southern Africa for the second time in one week over the weekend, killing more than one hundred people, injuring scores more, and leaving a path of devastation in its wake. On Monday, Mozambique and Malawi were assessing the damage caused by Freddy, which had ripped through the region over the weekend. According to the World Meteorological Organization, Freddy is one of the most powerful cyclones that has ever been documented in the southern hemisphere, and it has the potential to be the tropical cyclone that lasts the longest. On Saturday, it pounded the central region of Mozambique, ripping roofs off of structures and bringing widespread flooding around the port of Quelimane. After that, it moved inland toward Malawi with torrential rains that caused landslides.
