Over 1,200 children have died as caused by measles and hunger in Timbuktu.

The historic city of Timbuktu is in an uncertain situation. Since more than a month ago, the city has been under siege by jihadist groups connected to Al-Qaeda. This indicates that the residents have been trapped with little food and increasing danger.

These threats was not first taken seriously by many people. They believed it was simply an effort to scare them. But now they see it's a serious issue.

It's highly dangerous to get to Timbuktu. The terrorist group's head issued a warning that they would attack any trucks trying to pass. Traveling to the city is extremely risky because of the many armed militants that are present there.

Even the Niger River, which was once a means of transporting supplies, is now unsafe. A ferry was attacked in September, and many unarmed civilians died. As a result, using the river to get to the city was impossible.

Because there were attacks nearby, the only airline that flies to Timbuktu has stopped services. Timbuktu is experiencing an increase in difficulties as a result of these issues.

The jihadists in this region do not seek to conquer any cities. Instead, they are obstructing them and applying pressure to the administration. The military in Mali, which has been in charge since 2020, first refused to acknowledge the severity of the issue.

The city's trade is being severely harmed by this situation. Due to shortages and rising costs for necessities, trucks are unable to deliver products. If this keeps up, many local businesses might have to close.

Due to scarcities and terror, people in Timbuktu are suffering. The cost of living has risen dramatically and the attacks have made people fearful.

There is yet another concern. Other organizations than the jihadists could potentially assault the city. The streets are deserted and people are nervous because some members of these groups have shut their businesses out of fear of being attacked.

Some claim that in order to try to resolve this situation, traditional government officials should communicate with the jihadists. People in Timbuktu are in dangerous circumstances because the Mali government is unwilling to talk with terrorists.

There doesn't appear to be a quick fix at the moment. The people of Timbuktu are struggling, and they desperately need assistance.
