As he crossed the finish line, a powerful message in support of Palestine unfolded in Athens' Panathenaic stadium, with spectators waving Palestinian flags along the course.

In a thrilling race, Kenya's Rhonzai Lokitam Kilimo secured the second position with a time of 2:12:36, followed closely by Felicien Muhitira of Rwanda, who finished in the same time, narrowly missing out on second place. Kenyan runners have dominated the Athens Marathon, with Kiptoo's victory marking their 17th win since 2001 and surpassing the previous record set in 2014 by Felix Kandie.

The Athens Marathon course, characterized by challenging hills, provides a unique backdrop, passing near the historic battlefield where Athenians and allies achieved a remarkable victory in 490 BC. The race concludes at the iconic Panathenaic Stadium, a historic venue that hosted the track events during the inaugural modern Olympic Games in 1896. With a record number of 20,322 registered runners, this year's event exceeded all expectations, rebounding from a drop in attendance due to the pandemic in previous years.
