Move Afrika: A Music Industry Revolution in the Making

The world-famous charity concert series Global Citizen and the Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free-founded label pgLang have launched 'Move Afrika,' a vast African music tour schedule. This project intends to engage local artists, vendors, agencies, and crews, promote the finest of African music worldwide, spark transformative investments in the community, and offer possibilities for on-the-job skill development and training.

On December 6, Kendrick Lamar will launch the initiative with a performance in Kigali, Rwanda, starting an annual event that will take place in the African country for the following five years. With the goal of visiting five countries by 2025, the tour calendar will be expanded to include other countries. The success of Global Citizen's previous events in Africa, including the Global Citizen Festival: Accra and Global Citizen Live: Lagos, is a testament to their dedication to reducing inequality on the continent by providing opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship for the next generation.

By giving African musicians a worldwide stage on which to play and engage with a global fan base, "Move Afrika" has the potential to completely transform the African music industry and bring African music and culture to a wider audience. The effort also aims to raise awareness of important socioeconomic issues that affect Africa, such as getting funding for healthcare, addressing the impact of climate change on food security, increasing young employment prospects, and encouraging civic involvement. The choice of Rwanda to host the event is a testament to the nation's impressive economic development and its emphasis on resolving social issues, which represents a dramatic departure from its turbulent past.
