A New Era Is Dawning In UAE-Algeria Relations

 


Algeria's ties with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have become stronger in recent months. Following a period of silent crises that isolated Algeria in the Middle East area, the UAE has made attempts to repair relations and enhance communication with Algeria.

His Excellency Yousef Saif Sebaa Al Ali, the UAE Ambassador to Algeria, recently handed his credentials as the UAE's non-resident Ambassador to His Excellency Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the interim leader of Burkina Faso.


His Excellency Captain Ibrahim Traoré received greetings from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the third president of the United Arab Emirates and ruler of Abu Dhabi.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan invited Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to the UAE earlier this year in order to improve bilateral relations.


Algeria hailed the UAE in an effort to re-establish relations with Arab countries. Abdelmadjid Tebboune submitted a letter to the President of the UAE on bilateral ties and methods to enhance them.


The United Arab Emirates imported $8.51 million from Algeria last year. The UAE exported $815.02 million to Algeria. 

The 15th session of the joint UAE-Algeria Economic Committee was convened earlier this year in Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital, under the presidency of Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, the Minister of Economy, and Ahmed Zaghdar, the Algerian Minister of Industry.

According to the UAE's minister of economy, "economic cooperation is one of the major pillars of the two countries' solid ties." Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri went on to report, "The non-oil trade between the two countries has recovered from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, growing 14% from $701 million in 2020 to around $800 million by the end of 2022."

The UAE's investment inflows to Algeria are expected to be over $600 million in 2021. Since 2016, bilateral commerce between the two countries has risen.
