US imposes sanctions on former Sudan foreign minister Ali Karti

As punishment for allegedly impeding efforts to put an end to the Sudanese conflict, the United States imposed sanctions on the former foreign minister of Sudan, Ali Karti.

Ali Karti was subject to penalties on Thursday, according to the U.S. Department of the Treasury, who claimed he was undermining efforts to stabilize Sudan.

The Sudanese Islamic Movement is now led by Ali Karti, according to the Treasury Department, following the removal of former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in 2019.

The United States asserts that Ali Karti's activities hampered the Framework Political Agreement procedure and the former civilian-led transitional government, which ultimately led to the confrontation between the Sudanese army (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on April 15, 2023.

Ali Karti is still dedicated to Sudan's stability and the success of its armed forces, according to the Islamic Movement in Sudan, which has rejected the U.S. sanctions on him.

Ali Karti and other Islamist leaders are charged by the United States of undermining attempts to reinstate civilian authority and increasing the confrontation between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces.

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs for Sudan under former President Omar al-Bashir, Ali Karti, has been aggressively fighting Sudanese civilians' attempts to reestablish peace and security in the nation.

He previously served as the paramilitary Popular Defence Forces of Sudan's leader and is currently the secretary general of the Islamic Movement in Sudan.

Sudan is in a hazardous condition as a result of the confrontation between the military of Sudan and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) group, which has resulted in violence and casualties.

General Abdel Fattah Burhan, commander of the Sudanese military, and General Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, commander of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), engaged in combat.
