Fire explosion claims lives at illegal oil refinery in Nigeria


In southern Nigeria, an illegal oil refinery went on fire and exploded, caused the death of atleast 37 lives including two pregnant women and leaving many more injured.

The explosion took place in the Rivers State, where a fire broke out late at night. Reports indicate a refinery with a homemade set-up, led to a fire spread fueling an explosion in a nearby oil reservoir. People at the scene have got severe burns and many lost their lives.

The number of death cases may increase as details are awaited of the incident. The area is highly populated and the nature of operation being illegal getting the exact numbers is a challenge.

This area is home to may such makeshift structures that operate with no regard for safety regulations. This leads to such unfortunate incidents.

With the tragic loss of lives and accidents, such illegal operations have an impact on the economy also.
