Second round runoff between George Weah and Joseph Boakai in Liberia

A runoff election between the current President George Weah and challenger Joseph Boakai is scheduled for November 14. This comes after the National Elections Commission of Liberia announced the results of the first round. Weah, a former international football icon, got 43.83% of the vote, falling short of getting an absolute majority, and Boakai secured 43.44%.

Weah has promised to tackle poverty and stimulate infrastructure development, and transforming Liberia from a low-income to a middle-income country. There have been critics who say that he has not delivered on those lines.

Joseph Boakai, who was previously vice president under the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf government states that he will deliver all the George Weah has fallen short of.

George Weah was a soccer icon and in his illustrious soccer career of 18 years, he enjoyed stints with renowned teams like Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

The runoff will decide Liberia's future.
