Harry and Meghan touched down in Nigeria

The Chief of Defence Staff of Nigeria extended an invitation to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, to attend a sporting event he established for injured military veterans, known as the Invictus Games. The royal couple arrived at Abuja's Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Friday morning, marking their visit following Harry's recent journey to the UK for the 10th anniversary celebration of the Invictus Games. Despite extending invitations to members of his family, such as his father King Charles, brother Prince William, and sister-in-law Kate Middleton for a service at St Paul’s Cathedral, none of them were in attendance. Meghan accompanied Harry, and together they traveled to Nigeria.

On their itinerary for Friday, the couple will tour a school and hold a meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff. Additionally, Harry plans to visit injured military personnel at a military hospital.

Saturday's schedule includes their attendance at a training session for the organization Nigeria: Unconquered, followed by a reception hosted by the Chief of Defence Staff in honor of military families. Meghan will co-host a 'Women in Leadership' event with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization.

The royal couple's Sunday plans involve attending a basketball game featuring African teams, followed by a cultural reception and a polo fundraiser for Nigeria: Unconquered.

Throughout their tenure as royals, Harry and Meghan have embarked on numerous official international tours. Following their royal wedding in 2018, they visited Australia, Tonga, Fiji, and New Zealand. In February 2019, during Meghan's pregnancy with their son Archie, they toured Morocco before visiting South Africa with their newborn.

During their visit, Harry and Meghan will engage with service personnel and participate in various cultural activities, shedding light on the Invictus Games. Harry previously participated in the games held in Germany last year, which welcomed 500 athletes from 21 countries, including Nigeria.

The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, who attended last year's event in Germany, has expressed Nigeria's preparedness to host the games if given the opportunity.

At the Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany, Meghan and Harry connected with the Nigerian team, with Harry acknowledging his wife's support during his opening speech.
