Kenya orders evacuations in flood-prone areas after a deadly landslide.

William Ruto, the President of Kenya, traveled to the flood-stricken village of Kamuchiri, which is located north-west of Nairobi, on Tuesday, April 30. Residents of places that have experienced flooding or landslides in the past, as well as residents who live near dams and rivers that are regarded to be in high danger, will be required to leave, according to the Cabinet, because seasonal rains are expected to increase.

“Within 48 hours from tomorrow, everyone living in the riparian zones should vacate,” Ruto stated to reporters. We do not want to continue to lose the lives of our compatriots, and this is why we are doing this in Nairobi and throughout the entire country. In order to supply them with all of the necessities, including food, shelter, and other necessities, we will devise and implement appropriate programs. There was a decision made in cabinet today regarding this matter, and the government will collaborate with development partners on this endeavor.

Early on Monday morning, a river crashed through a blocked tunnel in Kamuchiri Village, resulting in the deaths of a number of people. The president addressed those who survived the tragedy. People in the community voiced their suffering, and some of them vented their anger at the way the government responded. I am aware that you have both lost your children.

This location has yielded a total of 48 dead remains, including those of children, women, and men, as of this moment. In spite of the fact that the majority of the around 100 people who were hospitalized have been treated and discharged, there are still approximately 26 people who have been admitted.

Since the middle of March, the country has been hit by heavy rains, which have caused more than 100,000 people to be displaced and have also destroyed roads and other infrastructure.

Those individuals who do not comply with the evacuation order will be relocated by force, according to the government of Kenya. When there was just a short amount of notice, it was unclear how notifications and evacuations would be carried out
