UAE Announces New Humanitarian Projects and USD 10.25 Million for the UN in Chad to Support Women Affected by Conflict in Sudan

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced new humanitarian initiatives in Chad, along with a USD 10.25 million donation to the United Nations. This contribution aims to support Sudanese women refugees impacted by the ongoing conflict in Sudan, highlighting the UAE's commitment to addressing the needs of women and children in the region. These efforts primarily focus on healthcare, psychosocial support, and essential aid services. The announcement follows the UAE's earlier pledge of USD 100 million at the Paris Donors Conference in April 2024 to support international humanitarian organizations.

During a recent visit to Chad, led by Her Excellency Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Special Envoy, the UAE delegation met with Sudanese women refugees and key figures from local civil society and UN agencies. The visit included fact-finding missions to humanitarian sites such as a refugee assistance center and the UAE-constructed Abéché Field Hospital. These projects emphasize the UAE’s dedication to understanding and addressing the critical needs of refugees while ensuring that aid is effectively distributed.

The USD 10.25 million will be allocated across various UN agencies, including USD 3 million for maternal and child health services through the World Health Organization, and USD 2 million to the UN Population Fund for women's health and gender-based violence programs. Additional funds will support social cohesion initiatives and provide direct assistance to women-led civil society organizations. This contribution, alongside ongoing efforts, underscores the UAE’s focus on empowering vulnerable women and fostering long-term regional stability.
