UAE Extends Humanitarian Aid in Sudan to Alleviate the Situation Caused by Continued Conflict

In response to the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the UAE has significantly increased its humanitarian assistance, aiming to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people. Since the outbreak of hostilities in April 2023, the UAE has launched extensive relief operations, delivering critical supplies to those affected. Through 159 flights, the UAE transported over 10,000 tons of food, medicines, and other essential resources to Sudan, providing a lifeline to a nation facing severe shortages due to the conflict between the Sudanese Army and the RSF.

Beyond immediate emergency aid, the UAE has a long-standing commitment to Sudan, contributing $3.5 billion in humanitarian assistance over the past decade. In response to the 2023 crisis, the UAE pledged $100 million at the International Humanitarian Conference, with 70% of those funds directed to the UN and other agencies. This support focuses on addressing food insecurity, healthcare, emergency shelter, and, most importantly, protection for women and children. The UAE also established two field hospitals in Chad, which have treated over 45,000 patients, demonstrating its commitment to providing neutral and inclusive humanitarian aid.

Collaborating closely with international organizations like the UN, the UAE’s efforts have been recognized globally. From airlifts of essential supplies to the deployment of a relief ship, the UAE has been instrumental in mitigating the effects of the crisis. International leaders, such as UN Under-Secretary-General Martin Griffiths and UNHCR Commissioner Filippo Grandi, have praised the UAE’s swift and coordinated response, which has played a key role in preventing famine and providing life-saving aid. As the conflict continues, the UAE remains a critical player in ensuring immediate relief and supporting long-term stability in Sudan and the region.
