President Rajoelina of Madagascar Plans to Run for Re-Election.

 Andry Rajoelina, Madagascar's President, declared his intention to run for president again in November during a lavish event in the country's largest stadium.  Rajoelina first came to power in 2009, when the former president was deposed in a coup. He was re-elected in 2018 after declining to run in 2013 due to worldwide criticism. The president, made the declaration in Antananarivo , Madagascar's capital, expressing his willingness to represent the Malagasy people. During his term, he emphasized infrastructure development, naming schools, courts, and jails built in the last five years. Rajoelina referred to himself as a "builder president" and expressed determination to overcome obstacles. However, in recent months, there have been concerns raised concerning his dual citizenship with France. Leaders of Tanzanian opposition released following mass arrests during a banned youth gathering

  Following a series of arrests at a prohibited youth meeting in southwestern Tanzania, several leaders of the main opposition party, CHADEMA, along with hundreds of their supporters, were released on Tuesday. Over 500 CHADEMA supporters, including party Chairman Freeman Mbowe and Vice Chairman Tundu Lissu, were detained throughout Sunday and Monday. Human rights organizations have condemned the arrests, with Amnesty International expressing concern that the crackdown was intended to intimidate the opposition ahead of upcoming local government elections later this year and national elections in 2025. Authorities had banned the CHADEMA youth section's gathering in Mbeya, citing concerns it could "disturb the peace."
