UAE Inaugurates Humanitarian Orphanage Project in Ethiopia's Oromia Region

 

The UAE has recently inaugurated a significant humanitarian project in Ethiopia’s Oromia region: a well-equipped orphanage designed to provide comprehensive support to over 700 orphans. This AED 20 million initiative is a testament to the UAE's long-standing commitment to humanitarian efforts and sustainable development across Africa. The orphanage includes residential buildings, schools, a kindergarten, a library, a training center, and recreational spaces—all aimed at offering a safe, nurturing environment for children in need. Additionally, the project is outfitted with modern infrastructure, including a well and advanced water pumps to ensure the availability of clean water.

This project is part of the UAE’s broader development initiatives in Africa, which are being carried out under the guidance of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Inaugurated by Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, the orphanage not only addresses the immediate needs of vulnerable children but also serves as a symbol of the growing partnership between the UAE and Ethiopia. Dr. Ahmed expressed his gratitude for the UAE’s contribution to Ethiopia’s development, particularly in the sectors of housing, education, and healthcare. He emphasized that the UAE’s support plays a crucial role in building Ethiopia's infrastructure and enhancing its social services.

The inauguration ceremony also featured remarks by Dr. Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, who highlighted the enduring legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. His visionary leadership has inspired the UAE’s continued efforts to support communities in need, and these initiatives are being carried forward under the stewardship of President Sheikh Mohamed. The project in Oromia reflects the UAE’s ongoing dedication to creating lasting positive change, not only in Ethiopia but throughout Africa. With plans for more developmental and humanitarian efforts on the horizon, the partnership between the two nations continues to grow stronger, paving the way for a brighter future for vulnerable communities.
